Harv,
My politician response was tounge in cheek as I know its here to stay.As far as IRL goes, if your tearing down an engine after each use and it is designed to run on certain fuels, then okay.
An alcohol based engine burns much cleaner than gasoline and develops better hp if designed so.
The pistons on that 1600hp dragster engine wipe clean with a rag and look new after a 1/2 dozen runs. It burns about 3 to 4 gallons per 1/4 mile run.
My problem is don't throw out a new fuel to run engines not designed to handle it.
Just some info on the two:
Ethanol is fermented alcohol made primarily from corn or sugar cane.Methanol is made from natural gas or coal, and is also known as "wood alcohol." Methanol is highly corrosive, more volatile than ethanol, and can be damaging to plastic and rubber fuel system components (elastomers).
"White Lightning" is also methanol.Methanol doesn't burn as environmentaly clean as ethanol even though it is more abundant.
Brazil is the key as they are the largest producer of ethanol which is tied in NAFTA.
