Bruce,
You seem to mimic my entire thought on this whole ethanol situation. I for one, claimed it was nothing more than a project for pork. However, your suggestion for eliminating the politicians that support this would be hard to sustain for the simple reason that the lobby groups that support this will be lining the pockets of the next politician to fill the void.
Your comparison of the sludge looking like burnt sugar or residue is probably right on target. Just look at any can of soda. The ingredients list no longer says sugar, but instead has high fructose corn syrup for sweeteners. They are beating us from every direction. Corn syrup is processed and worse for us than regular sugar. And we have all come to realize that neither one belongs in our engines.
On another note, "In a March 3, 2005 announcement at Union Station on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, Indy Racing League and ethanol industry officials explained that the 2006 IndyCar Series will be fueled by a blend of 90% methanol – the league's current racing fuel – and 10% ethanol. The 2007 series will be powered by 100% ethanol."
Let's face it, ethanol is here to stay and we just have to be able to stay one step ahead of the ethanol industry if we want to keep our gassers purring.
