Sort of.
Okay, last year as the problem developed, when I got engine started and if a rod didn't bend I could Idle dockside for hours, no problem. However, soon as I applied throttle and boat just started to squat, I would backfire on one engine then usually the other, bent rods on both. I would limp back to the dock, toss some stuff and go home. Come down next time replace rod/rods try something a mechanic mentioned (dump Marvel Mystery Oil here or there, let idle a bit longer to wear in seats etc) and try it again. Made no difference. I should also mention my plugs came out with a tacky black goo, a bit thicker then molassas.
It was late in the season and said what the hell let me run with fresh fuel from Gas cans and rule out fuel as my cause.
Hooked up engines to jugs I secured in stern and went out for a ride, low and behold I got on plane, something I was not able to do for months, engines still burnt a whole lot more fuel then normal but I was cruising. Dockside I pulled out a few plugs and they looked fairly normal. That how I knew it was the gas.
Now for this year.
You would have to see the goo and realize the stuff clings to the intake and exhaust valves as well as all other fuel related parts. My guess is the fuel from the tank is no longer the issue but the stuff clinging to the valves and intake from last year. I think it must be getting tacky and either going up into the valve guides and hanging up or what I think is my problem now going into the seat area and solidifing when engine is off, thus sort of glueing the valve closed, thus bending a rod at startup. If it where just about any other year I would just go down and rip of heads and have them cleaned, probly rip out tank and put a new one in. Unfortuntely these past few years money and time are lacking, I usually only find a day a month to really use the boat and a couple hours in the meantime to fiddle around.
I'm still breathing, family and friends all doing well I'm not complaining.
Yup it was another ramble, sorry.
