That last link mentions Bertram directly told the owner, Alcohol is reacting with the fiberglass tank. Being secound hand info, has anyone here contacted Bertram directly about this issue. Sound exactly like the Hatteras scenario.
If the tanks reacting then its possible or likely the tank will be leaking soon. I usually have wife and kids with me so if this is the case The tank will be replaced soom.
If nobody has heard directly, does anyone know where to begin to find out this info at Bertram? Now as to the pic of the fuel, yeah mine was sort of like that but a few shades darker and emitted an awful stench.
Funny how others are doing what I have sort of found to work for me. This year for the most part I have been making headway over last year, this year I can run. I went from bending pushrods every time I try to run to running. I was bending rods on startup, valves were hanging up, then clank, bent rod. Change the rod and she ran fine.
Now I have been spraying the engine with Amsoils "PowerFoam" a carb, injector, valve cleaner. When I dock I spay a bit into the carb till she stalls wait 10 minutes, crank it up and let the engine settle down then shut it off.
Once in a while I can hear a valve hangin up slightly as I give it a slow crank prior to startup, ignition off. I now make sure I don't here valve noise prior to turning on ignition, then I turn on and start. Seems to be working.I still believe it was tank crud being dissloved. Sort of hope so now as I have spent two seasons dealing with it. I was going to change the one line I was in doubt of but turns out every line was Alcohol complient prior to the start of the problem. The fuel cam out brownish last year and this year fuel seems fine, if it was the tank wouldn't it still be a problem?
Problem still sucks but kind of nice to know I'm not the only one. Especially not the only one to do 4 heads and buy new carbs and change out good fuel lines and still have the problem.
I also used the Starbrite Startron Enzme crap as it is supposed to clean your tank of crud and transform it into burnable stuff increase your mileage clean engine and work as a stabilizer and make your life a hole lot better. Does it work? Don't know I'm just happy to being able to burn my 4.25/gal of fuel and cruise without bending pushrods.
Sorry for the ramble.
Again anyone speak to Bertram about this issue? Who to speak with? Thanks All
