have you found aluminum tanks owners with the same symptoms? black goo in the upper engine and clean filters? the aluminum owners i have communicatd with have had slightly different symptoms. they have had an orangy goo gumming the filters which eventually passes the filters and choke the motors.
as far as adding marvel to the gas, i know of a hatteras owner who has the problem and has been fogging his engines every time he shuts down. it seems to stop the black goo from solidifying
and helped him salvage the season before tackling the enevitable. of course starting up in 3 mile harbor after the fireworks brought some stares because of the fog around his boat.
my story is after 2 bouts with bent pushrods i pumped both tanks. hand cranked both engines while spraying loads of carb cleaner. finally cranked the engines,(coil disconnected) again liberal use of carb cleaner, standing on some pushrods to keep pressure on them. when i got the intake valves to stop sticking i connected the coil and ran them on straight carb cleaner for as long as they would run. then i ran each engine off a remote tank laced with a double dose of chevron techtron.
since then i have been adding only 20 - 25 gallons when i need it and lacing each load with a double dose of techtron. i have been out 4 or 5 times without any issue. i plan on pulling the carbs this weekend and see what the intake manifolds looks like. i'll let you know what i find.
