Dave,
The best part about doing the bench seat myself was being able to "improve" upon some of the things in the stock bench. For example, I was able to countersink the seat back hinges (see the pictures on Shambala's website) so that you don't end up sitting on a hinge that you can feel. Also, the pleats were hand sewn instead of the pre-molded kind that you see so often in pre-made marine upholstery.
There is one thing I would change if I did it all over again. On the leading edge of the seat I had the upholstery guy put scrim in to cushion the edge. Next time I will simply use a router to round off the edge so I don't feel it on the back of my calves.

As for the bride...well, I've learned she is generally oblivious to the little extra things I do on Shambala. It's just not her thing. Countersinking hinges just isn't going to get her excited like it does me. Of course I suppose the first time I do something that she doesn't like, I'll hear about it (like putting bait tank in the middle of the cockpit).
Oh well, what can you do?
