In Response To: Re: Helm bench seat (Capt. Dave Kosh)

I had a custom truck manufacturer make a high-end aluminum tool box as the base for the seat and aluminum brackets for the back on my 25 FBSF. The big advantage of this was a massive amount of dry storage accessible from the cockpit. The door is horizontal and swings up on gas shocks. I mounted it on aluminum angle to raise the seat above the curvature of the cabin top and to allow water to run under the box. I'm really happy with the result and the box is so strong that there is no deflection at all even in the heavy going. Just be sure to have enough padding on the seat.
