Ethanol shouldn't affect the plastic, it will probably disolve soem crud in the tanks, it will damage fuel lines if they aren't approved for alcohol. Ethanol is much better as a fuel or fuel additive than methanol, which will combine with water and phase separate from the gas. Ethanol - or isopropyl - will absorb water and keep it in the gas so it can burn through - provided there isn't too much.
Walter, I hope you were talking about gas engines in your 20, not your Cummins in the 31? Shouldn't be any ethanol in your diesel!
