Walter, the ethanol in the fuel will not break down polyester or epoxy resins. They are chemically inactive with alcohol. He is correct that the ethanol is acting as a solvent and is breaking down old deposits in his fuel tanks and possibly breaking down the fuel lines themselves depending on type and age. Once the tanks have cleaned themselves the problem should stop. If it is pervasive, it is possible the ethanol is breaking down old deposits in his marinas tanks which is why the fuel is looking dark.
I had the same problem with frequent filter changes (I went through two cases of filters this year) and had to have the carb's rebuilt (very dirty). I also had to replace all of the fuel lines (which was expensive for the three tanks I have).
